I’ve been thinking a lot about trying to put myself out there to take more photos of children, families, couples, etc. Like, you know, professionally and all. I look at blog after blog after website after website. Some that I see are insanely phenomenal and they remind me to keep my day job. Others that I view…well…let’s just say they lead me to believe this is something I can do.

I have been so fortunate recently to have some friends need just the type of photos that I want to take. Three separate people, actually. I feel like this is a good testing phase to see how I do. I shot two of them yesterday and I have another in a couple weeks. So, within the next few weeks, I’ll be going through my pics to get them ready to give to my “clients.” I’ll post some here and there to give you a glimpse into my progress.

Here’s the first unofficial official new business that’s not yet a business photo. Let me know what you think.

I got together with my friend this weekend to take her son’s 6 month photos. Here’s what I have to say about this little guy….

Oh holy good grief. There are beautiful children everywhere I look. My heart just melts every time I see another one. I think I might steal her.

Can you believe it? This is donut girl‘s sister! I mean seriously. What did their parents do to make these girls so darn cute. I mean, I would have picked one up under each arm and ran with them if their parents wouldn’t have known where to find me. They belong to my cousin and his wife.

If this isn’t one of the cutest things you’ve ever seen in your whole life…I don’t know what is.

A very serious competition

One of the things that I have always thought would be fun to do is be a baby photographer. Sure there would be days when the child is just not happy to be participating in such an event and they let you know it. That might be a little trying on the patience. But for the most part, they are so beautiful and bring such joy to be around. Seems to me that the good days WAY outweigh the tough ones.

This weekend, I went to my friend’s house to try and take some Anne Geddes-type, sleeping baby photos of her 12-day-old little girl. But even after a 75 degree house and a 25-minute feeding, that child was wide awake and not looking to fade off any time in the near future. So we ditched all effort and props that were gathered for the sleeping baby poses and moved forward with shots of her simply wrapped in a blanket. It actually turned out not too bad. This one might be my favorite of the day. It makes me giggle every time I look at it. Man! I would love to do this for a living.

This little girl was hanging out with her mommy one day while listening to some good music being played at a grand opening to a bike shop. She was in one of those sling things that hold the baby comfortably and more naturally on someone’s back. She was the most content baby with such beautiful blue eyes. She watched me with calm expression while I took a couple photos of her. Kind of like she knew something that I didn’t but was being patient while I figured it out.
